01 / THE ORIGIN STORY

“If you don’t stop making fun of me, I’m going to buy a fire engine.”

She did not stop.

So now I own a yellow 1991 Seagrave fire engine. That may not have been the most practical way to win an argument, but it was definitely the most memorable.

The made-up Red Beard Fire Department began as a family joke. Now we’re figuring out how this old engine can do something real: bring recognition, gratitude, and a little joy to the hardworking firefighters who show up for all of us, every day.
